Current Shopping Centre in Budiriro has become a red light area with immorality at its peak. With the rise of unemployment, broken marriages and the use of illicit drugs a lot of lives have been destroyed and prostitution has become an easy way to get money to survive. Many women have expressed their concern over the happenings at the shopping centre as more and more young girls are being sucked into the web of prostitution and consumption of illicit drugs. A source Mai Saunyama said, “My husband used to belong to a white garment church but due to high rate of prostitution at Current Shops , my husband has changed, sometimes he comes home at midnight or early morning around 5am. Long ago at Current Shopping Centre, ladies of the night used to be discreet about their business but now they are doing it in broad daylight. As early as 6pm, sex workers can be seen walking half naked in the streets in search of customers. Under age girls have also joined with the prostitution crew and many men are rushing to them as they are labelled the "fresh ones". Broken marriages has made many women vulnerable and thirsty for money to support their families without taking their health into consideration. “Per day, I can go home with $10 because I charge $1 per hour and half price for 30 minutes. I am a mother and this motivates me to go and work because I need money look after my two children “said one of the sex workers by the name of Nyasha (not her real name).
